Cloud Operations Engineer

What you'll do:

As a Cloud Operations Engineer at Vbrick, you will have a chance to enhance and develop your technical skills across a diverse technology stack which makes use of Cloud native technologies as well as DevOps principles.

This role is considered to be a senior level individual contributor role for enthusiastic technical professionals willing to lead projects and share their experience.

This role will be focused on the operational support and improvement of our production Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) application hosted primarily in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform.

The position is a full-time employee role with a primarily M-F business hours schedule, but the role requires the candidate to participate in a weekly on-call rotation after-hours and weekends.


What you'll bring:

  • Provide assistance with troubleshooting issues escalated to engineering including on-call assistance for top priority incidents.
  • Deploy product code and infrastructure changes to our Production environments using our change management and deployment process.
  • Execute primary responsibilities for scheduled maintenance and compliance tasks in rotation with other engineers on-staff.
  • Deliver design documents, software programs, scripts, configuration files, and other programming artifacts as needed to implement solutions.
  • Provide training and mentoring to other team members on high-level design, implementation design, and coding skills and best practices.
  • Provide leadership and technical management of solutioning efforts, including projects and initiatives.
  • Research and investigate new capabilities of cloud services and other technologies.
  • Provide timely insight and advice to leadership team to permit the leveraging of these technologies in future plans.
  • Assist in gathering, clarifying, and documenting requirements of solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with architects and other engineers to determine potential gaps and alternative solutions.
  • Ensure that all designs are aligned with the organization's standards and policies and that designs are reviewed properly.
  • Ensure that all changes are reviewed properly for adherence to security policies and best practices.

Required:

  • This is a senior level technical position. We will expect practical working experience consistent with that of a mid-career professional in Operations, DevOps, or related specialties.
  • Experience working in a large-scale cloud environment; for this purpose, experience with AWS will be strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services products in particular. Certifications are desirable, but not required, if the candidate can demonstrate proficiency equivalent to the Professional or Specialist training tiers.
  • Experience with managing Windows and Linux operating systems as an administrator, particularly in a production Cloud environment.
  • Experience with managing networking, load balancing and firewall configuration to secure networks and prevent intrusion and data extrusion.
  • Ability to script or code in a language useful for IT automation, particularly in Ruby or Python. Scripting in UNIX shell is desirable, but not does not meet this requirement fully.
  • Comfort with presenting technical information, project status, and other information in team, department, or project status meetings.
  • Sharing information through training and mentoring of others in the department.
  • Ability to independently undertake and manage technical projects based on requirements provided by management.
  • US Citizen or National

Preferred:

  • Experience with creating Infrastructure-as-Code solutions.
  • Experience with Automation tools (for example, Chef, Packer, Terraform, or Ansible).
  • Experience with source code control, particularly Git.
  • Experience with administering the following software: nginx, mod_security, NodeJs, Chef, Docker, Jenkins, JIRA, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Logstash/Filebeat, Kibana, RabbitMQ.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment with geographically distributed teams.
